Abstrak

This paper investigates the interdisciplinary role of sociology and anthropology in the study of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), especially in coastal communities. The research is guided by five questions: how sociology explains socio-religious phenomena; how anthropology contributes to understanding cultural and religious traditions; the relevance of both disciplines in analyzing the interaction between Islamic values and social realities; the integration of perspectives to enrich PAI methods, materials, and practices; and the challenges and opportunities for applying these approaches in modern contexts. The study employs a qualitative library research method, reviewing books, academic journals, and previous studies relevant to sociology, anthropology, and Islamic education. The findings indicate that sociology plays a central role in analyzing the functions of religion, patterns of community interaction, and the influence of social change on religious practices. Meanwhile, anthropology emphasizes the significance of local culture, rituals, and traditions in shaping Islamic education, particularly in coastal societies where diversity is prominent. The integration of both perspectives provides a more holistic and contextualized understanding, enabling PAI to be more responsive to contemporary realities. The study concludes that interdisciplinary approaches are essential for strengthening curriculum design, pedagogical strategies, and student character formation, while also fostering critical awareness and cultural sensitivity. This contributes theoretically to Islamic education discourse and practically to its implementation in multicultural environments.
