These guidelines outline the technical format, writing rules, and submission process for manuscripts.
Manuscript Scope:Madinah: Journal of Islamic Studies publishes interdisciplinary research on Islamic thought and practice within coastal and inland Muslim communities. The journal welcomes both conceptual studies and empirical research results that align with its thematic focus.
Originality: Manuscripts must be original works, unpublished, and not under consideration for publication in any other journal or media.
Plagiarism: All manuscripts will undergo a plagiarism check using detection software. The maximum allowable similarity index is 30%. Any manuscript exceeding this percentage will be automatically rejected.
Manuscript Length: The manuscript should be between 5,000 and 8,000 words, including the title, abstract, and references.
Language: Manuscripts must be written in English.
Manuscript Format: The manuscript must be in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format on A4 paper with 2 cm margins on all sides. The font should be Book Antiqua 12 with single spacing.
Citation Style: Citations and bibliographies must follow the Turabian/Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition. All references should be listed in alphabetical order.
Continuous Publishing: This journal operates on a continuous publishing system, where accepted articles are published online immediately after passing the peer-review process, without waiting fora specific edition.
Letter Of Acceptance (LOA) will be sent, if the manuscript has been declared ACCEPTED and has paid the publication fee
Content Guidelines
These guidelines describe the expected structure and content of each section of the article, aiming to ensure your manuscript meets the standards of a reputable journal.
Title:
The title should serve as a strong your original idea or findings. It must be concise, specific, and effective. Avoid titles that are merely descriptive, like those of a research report or thesis.
For Field Research Articles: The title must briefly contain three essential elements: the idea or finding, the significance of the findings, and the research object. Example:The Contrastive Linguistic Method to Minimize Javanese Interference In Arabic Language Learning At Islamic Boarding Schools
For Conceptual Articles: The title should not contain a specific method but must powerfully reflect the significance and object of your analysis. Example:Rethinking Tolerance in Classical Islamic Jurisprudence: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Contemporary Issues.
Author's Name & Affiliation: Full names without academic titles, followed by the author's institutional affiliation (with city and country) and official email address. This information should be written in a single space with Book Antiqua 12 font.
Abstract:
Written in a single paragraph and single-spaced, Written in Indonesian and English , The abstract length must be between 150-300 words. It should contain a concise summary of the research objectives, the method used, the main findings, the novelty, and the contribution of the study.
Keywords:
Consist of 3-5 words or phrases that reflect the manuscript's main themes and are suitable for indexing
Introduction:
This section must provide a clear background and general Context; Start with the broad topic. State of the Art / literature Review; Discuss what is already known about the topic. This is where you cite relevant research. Identifying the research gap; This is the most crucial part. Research questions and objectives; Clearly state what the study aims to do. and end with significance / contribution; Briefly explain why this study matters and what it contributes to the study.
The introduction should not exceed 20% of the total manuscript length.
Method:
For Field Research: Describe the research design, participants/samples, data collection techniques, instruments used, and the methods for data analysis. This section should be detailed enough for the research to be replicable.
For Conceptual Articles: Describe the research approach, data sources: specify the types of sources you used, data collection and analysis techniques: Describe the specific analytical methods applied to the literature, such as content analysis, discourse analysis, or historical analysis. This demonstrates that your ideas are built systematically on a solid scholarly foundation, not just personal opinion.
This section should be concise but sufficient, not exceeding 15% of the manuscript.
Results & Discussion:
Present the research findings clearly and logically, use tables, graphs, pictures, or verbal description are used interchangeably
The discussion section aims to interpret your findings and answer the research questions. It must comprehensively link your research to existing scholarly knowledge by supporting, comparing, or contrasting your results with those of previous studies from reputable journals. This section should also explain the theoretical and practical implications of your findings and demonstrate your article’s original contribution to the field.
This section should not exceed 60% of the manuscript.
Conclusion:
The Conclusion section presents a summary of the main findings and directly answers the research questions posed in the introduction. In addition, it must formulate the implications of these findings, both theoretically and practically, and provide clear suggestions for the direction of future research.
Acknowledgment. If needed, the author can add appreciation to this section.
References:
All references cited in the text must be listed.
The majority of your references (preferably over 80%) should be from reputable, indexed journals.
Authors are highly encouraged to use a reference management application like Zotero or Mendeley to ensure citation accuracy.
Submission Preparation Checklist
All submissions must meet the following requirements.
The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; Book Antiqua, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
