Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Madinah: Jurnal Studi Islam recognizes that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, DeepL, Copilot, and similar technologies may assist academic writing and editorial processes. The journal supports the ethical, responsible, and transparent use of AI while maintaining academic integrity and human responsibility in scholarly publishing.

Use of AI by Authors

Authors may use AI tools for limited purposes such as language improvement, grammar checking, translation assistance, literature search, or manuscript organization.

However:

  • Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts.
  • AI tools may not be listed as authors or co-authors.
  • Authors must verify all content generated or assisted by AI tools.
  • The use of AI to generate fake data, fake citations, fabricated results, or misleading content is strictly prohibited.

If AI tools are used substantially in manuscript preparation, authors should disclose this use in the manuscript, preferably in the Acknowledgements section or in a separate “AI Use Statement.”

Example:
“The authors used ChatGPT to assist in language improvement and manuscript organization. All interpretations, conclusions, and final content remain the responsibility of the authors.”

Use of AI by Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts under review may not be uploaded to public AI tools or external AI platforms.

Reviewers are also prohibited from using AI tools to generate peer-review reports or editorial recommendations. Peer review must remain based on the reviewer’s own academic judgment and expertise.

Use of AI by Editors

Editors may use AI-assisted tools for limited administrative purposes, such as plagiarism detection, language checking, or reviewer identification. However, editorial decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection must always be made solely by human editors.

Editors may not upload confidential manuscripts to public AI systems without appropriate safeguards.

Policy Violations

Any misuse of AI that violates publication ethics, academic integrity, confidentiality, or scholarly standards may result in manuscript rejection, correction, retraction, or other editorial actions according to the journal’s policies.

Policy Updates

This policy may be updated periodically in response to developments in AI technology and scholarly publishing standards.
