Publication Ethics

 

Madinah: Jurnal Studi Islam is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal published by Institut Agama Islam Tarbiyatut Tholabah. This publication ethics statement explains the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including the publisher, journal management, Editor-in-Chief, Section Editors, reviewers, and authors.

 

This publication ethics statement refers to the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications. The journal upholds three main ethical principles in scholarly publishing: neutrality, fairness, and honesty. Neutrality means that the publication process must be free from conflicts of interest. Fairness means that authorship rights must be granted only to those who have made significant contributions to the manuscript. Honesty means that all parties must avoid duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism in scientific publications.

 

Madinah: Jurnal Studi Islam is committed to maintaining academic integrity, publication transparency, and responsible scholarly communication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Publisher and Journal Management

 

The publisher and journal management are responsible for ensuring the sustainability, quality, legality, and integrity of the journal publication process. Their responsibilities include:

 

1. Determining the journal title, scientific scope, publication frequency, and accreditation strategy when necessary.

2. Appointing and maintaining the editorial board.

3. Defining the relationship among the publisher, editors, reviewers, authors, and other parties involved in the publication process.

4. Maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, authors’ data, reviewers’ identities, editorial decisions, and other confidential information.

5. Implementing rules and regulations related to intellectual property rights, especially copyright.

6. Reviewing and improving journal policies and communicating them clearly to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers.

7. Preparing guidelines on editorial procedures, review processes, and publication ethics.

8. Publishing the journal regularly according to the stated publication schedule.

9. Ensuring the availability of funding and resources to support the sustainability of journal publication.

10. Building academic cooperation with research institutions, universities, and relevant agencies.

11. Preparing and maintaining licensing, legal, and administrative aspects related to journal publication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief

 

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for leading the editorial process and making final publication decisions. The responsibilities of the Editor-in-Chief include:

 

1. Ensuring that the journal’s editorial policies are implemented consistently.

2. Making final publication decisions based on the manuscript’s academic quality, originality, relevance to the journal’s focus and scope, reviewers’ recommendations, and compliance with publication ethics.

3. Ensuring that every manuscript is reviewed fairly, objectively, and without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, institutional affiliation, or political belief.

4. Assigning manuscripts to appropriate Section Editors when necessary.

5. Ensuring that conflicts of interest involving editors, reviewers, or authors are properly managed.

6. Maintaining the confidentiality of manuscripts during the editorial and peer-review process.

7. Ensuring that accepted manuscripts have completed the required editorial, peer-review, revision, copyediting, layout editing, and final proofreading processes before publication.

8. Providing corrections, clarifications, retractions, or editorial notices when necessary.

9. Encouraging continuous improvement in the quality of published articles and journal management.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Section Editors

 

Section Editors are responsible for assisting the Editor-in-Chief in managing manuscripts according to their relevant fields or sections. Their responsibilities include:

 

1. Conducting an initial assessment of manuscripts assigned by the Editor-in-Chief.

2. Evaluating the relevance of manuscripts to the journal’s focus and scope.

3. Checking the manuscript’s compliance with the author guidelines, journal template, metadata requirements, and publication ethics.

4. Recommending suitable reviewers based on their expertise and relevance to the manuscript topic.

5. Monitoring the peer-review process and ensuring that reviewers submit their reports within the assigned period.

6. Reviewing the authors’ revisions based on reviewers’ comments and editorial requirements.

7. Providing editorial recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief regarding manuscript decisions.

8. Maintaining confidentiality and objectivity throughout the editorial and peer-review process.

9. Avoiding involvement in manuscripts where there is a potential conflict of interest.

10. Supporting the improvement of manuscript quality before publication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

 

Reviewers play an important role in maintaining the academic quality and integrity of the journal. Their responsibilities include:

 

1. Reviewing manuscripts objectively, constructively, and confidentially.

2. Evaluating the manuscript’s originality, relevance, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, findings, conclusion, references, and contribution to the field of Islamic studies.

3. Submitting review reports and recommendations to the editor within the assigned review period.

4. Providing clear, constructive, and academically responsible feedback to help authors improve their manuscripts.

5. Re-examining revised manuscripts when requested by the editor.

6. Maintaining the confidentiality of the manuscript and not sharing, distributing, or using unpublished materials for personal or professional advantage.

7. Declining the review assignment if there is a conflict of interest, lack of expertise, or inability to complete the review on time.

8. Not reviewing manuscripts in which the reviewer is directly or indirectly involved.

9. Informing the editor if there is any indication of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, or other forms of publication misconduct.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

 

Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, and integrity of the manuscripts they submit. Their responsibilities include:

 

1. Ensuring that the submitted manuscript is original, has not been previously published, and is not under consideration by another journal.

2. Ensuring that all listed authors have made significant contributions to the manuscript and have approved the final version for submission.

3. Taking collective responsibility for the content of the manuscript, including research methods, data, analysis, findings, conclusions, and references.

4. Properly acknowledging all sources of data, funding, references, and other forms of support.

5. Avoiding plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, and unethical authorship practices.

6. Disclosing any potential conflict of interest related to the manuscript.

7. Explaining the limitations of the research clearly and honestly.

8. Responding to comments from reviewers and editors in a professional, scientific, and timely manner.

9. Informing the editor in writing if the author wishes to withdraw the manuscript.

10. Ensuring that the manuscript follows the journal template, author guidelines, and submission requirements.

11. Submitting all required supporting documents, including the Turnitin similarity report and the completed Author Self-Validation Form.

12. Correcting any significant errors found in the manuscript during or after the publication process.

 

Conflict of Interest

 

Authors, editors, reviewers, and journal managers must disclose any potential conflict of interest that may influence the publication process. Any conflict of interest will be managed by the editorial team to ensure fair, objective, and responsible editorial decisions.

 

Plagiarism and Publication Misconduct

 

Madinah: Jurnal Studi Islam does not tolerate plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, unethical authorship, or any other form of publication misconduct. Manuscripts that indicate plagiarism or serious ethical violations may be rejected, corrected, or retracted according to the journal’s editorial policy.

 

Correction and Retraction

 

The journal may publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, or editorial notices when necessary. Retraction may be issued in cases of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, serious errors, or other forms of publication misconduct.

 

Complaints and Appeals

 

Authors may submit complaints or appeals regarding editorial decisions by contacting the editorial office. All complaints and appeals will be handled objectively, confidentially, and in accordance with the journal’s editorial procedures.
