Generative AI Policy

This policy follows the COPE position statement on authorship and AI tools. It applies to authors, reviewers and editors of Al Furqan.

AI cannot be an author. Tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Copilot cannot take responsibility for the work and must not be listed as authors or cited as sources of facts.
Permitted use. AI may assist with language editing, grammar and readability, or with searching and organising literature, under the authors’ full control.
Not permitted. Generating the argument, analysis, interpretation of Qur’anic verses, findings or conclusions; fabricating or altering data, quotations or references; and producing images that present invented evidence (for example, of manuscripts).
Disclosure. Any use beyond basic spelling and grammar checking must be declared in a “Declaration of generative AI use” before the references, naming the tool, version and purpose.
Responsibility. Authors must check every AI-assisted passage, translation and reference for accuracy, and remain fully accountable for the content, including any plagiarism or errors it introduces.

Manuscripts are confidential and must not be uploaded to generative AI tools, in whole or in part.
Review reports and editorial decisions must reflect the reviewer’s and editor’s own expert judgement; AI may only be used to polish the language of a report written by the reviewer.

Undisclosed or inappropriate use of AI is handled as a breach of publication ethics.
