Data Availability Policy

Al Furqan supports transparency and reproducibility of research while respecting research ethics, personal data protection, confidentiality and intellectual property.

Data availability statement

Every research article includes a Data availability statement in the Declarations section, before the references. The statement explains where the data, sources and materials underlying the findings can be accessed, for example:

• Textual and library-based studies: “All sources analysed in this study are published works listed in the references.”
• Manuscript studies: the holding institution, collection and shelfmark of each manuscript, and any digitised copy (for example, DREAMSEA or EAP) where available.
• Fieldwork, interviews and surveys (e.g. living Qur’an studies): where the anonymised data, interview guide or questionnaire are deposited, or “Data are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request”, with any restriction explained.
• Quantitative data or code: a link or DOI to a public repository such as Zenodo, Figshare, OSF or the institutional repository.

Principles

• Authors are encouraged to deposit data, instruments and protocols in a recognised open repository and to cite datasets in the references.
• Personal data of research participants must be anonymised and handled in accordance with the informed consent obtained and Indonesian Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection. Data that could identify participants must not be shared publicly.
• Research involving human participants must state ethical clearance (committee, number and year) or, for low-risk studies, the authors’ statement of compliance with research ethics.
• Images of manuscripts or other materials must be reproduced with permission from the owner or holding institution.
• Editors and reviewers may request access to underlying data during review. Failure to provide data needed to verify the findings may lead to rejection or, after publication, to action under the Publication Ethics policy.
